Marty Graff
Owner, Marty Graff Custom Homes & Remodeling
Marty Graff’s passion for construction and remodeling reaches back into his childhood-when as a Detroit high-schooler he convinced his employer to extend his summer job into the school year so that he could work part-time. He just couldn’t give it up. That passion and dedication hasn’t changed.
A licensed general contractor since 1971, he served as the 1999 Chair of the Remodelor’s Council of the Raleigh/Wake County Home Builders’ Association and has worked as both an independent builder and contractor, starting his own Raleigh firm, Marty Graff Custom Homes & Remodeling, in 1983.
Marty started his career in the construction industry in Detroit, Michigan in the early ’60s working for the Max Sabaroff Company while attending Wayne State University. At Sabaroff he learned carpentry, electrical wiring and cabinet making from his peers-Old World craftsmen and journeymen. Marty later worked as a purchasing agent for the company, learning how to bid projects and purchase necessary materials and supplies. At the same time, he learned the financial side of the business at Wayne State University as he pursued a degree in finance and business administration. All of these skills blended well. An entrepreneur was in the making. Marty founded Graff Custom Homes & Remodeling in the ’70s, moving the business to Raleigh in 1983. He and wife Mary have two grown daughters and four grandchildren.
